Manage silos.Secure stock.

You move bulk goods across several intake points and silo structures, and the quantity, quality and origin of a lot sit in three different systems. At settlement at the latest, or before an audit, that turns into manual work. fabular brings weighing, the silo ledger, laboratory values and contract terms together in one continuous process – across every site. A new rule for premiums and deductions can be described to fabAI rather than rebuilt in another spreadsheet – audited, because it runs on the same foundation as weighing and posting.

What happens without an integrated system

Batch tracking in Excel

Traceability across several spreadsheets is error-prone, time-consuming and not audit-proof. In an audit, sound evidence is missing exactly when it is needed.

Complete batch traceability with a full audit trail.

No real-time view of stock

Stock quantities and expiry dates are recognised too late, with consequences for production and the supply chain. Manual checks tie up staff every day.

FEFO/FIFO automated, warnings in real time, stock up to date.

Audits cost days of preparation

Before an audit, evidence has to be collected from different systems. That costs hours and carries the risk that something is missing.

All evidence versioned and retrievable on demand.

This page is written for trading and production businesses that move bulk goods across weighbridge, silo and laboratory and want to keep their lots in one system from delivery to settlement, instead of gathering quantity, quality and origin from spreadsheets after the fact.

Everyday work

What is genuinely difficult in bulk commodity handling

Taken on its own, every task is manageable. It becomes difficult because quantity, quality, origin and terms are attached to the same lot and change at different speeds.

  • A silo is not a storage bin with one number. Bulk goods are topped up, transferred and blended, and every addition changes the quality and origin picture of the remaining quantity.
  • Weighing data arises at the weighbridge, quality data in the laboratory, terms in the contract. Anyone who brings those three sources together only at settlement is calculating on hearsay.
  • Premiums and deductions for moisture, impurities or protein content belong in the contract logic. If they sit in a spreadsheet on one person's machine, the settlement cannot be verified in a dispute.
  • Intake points work decentrally, seasonally and often with temporary staff. Capture there still has to be clean enough to hold up a year later.
  • Global flows of goods bring reporting obligations with them. Origin, organic status and EUDR reference numbers are attached to the same lot as the price and have to survive every stock transfer.
  • In the campaign season, a large part of the annual volume passes through intake in a few weeks. Every manual step multiplies in exactly that period.

Blending breaks the side list

As long as one lot sits alone in a cell, any spreadsheet works. As soon as two lots come together, assigning origin, quality and evidence becomes reconstruction work.

Two truths about one stock

The sensor reports a volume, the books keep a quantity. Without a regular comparison and a documented difference, nobody knows which of the two values holds.

The laboratory value comes later

Analyses are often only available after storage. If the release is not held in the system, goods are processed or sold before the value even existed.

The solution

How fabular handles this

IoT silo ledger

  1. 1.Central control of decentralised intake points.
  2. 2.Levels and throughput data in real time by IoT.
  3. 3.Traceability across sites.
  4. 4.Variance check between measured value and book stock.

Even with several intake points, one overall picture remains.

Quality testing & laboratory

  1. 1.Quality parameters captured directly at intake.
  2. 2.Laboratory values linked automatically to batch and invoice.
  3. 3.Test reports archived audit-proof.
  4. 4.Release and blocking as part of the process.

The laboratory value affects the settlement without anyone transferring it.

Suppliers & contracts

  1. 1.Contracts, framework volumes and terms managed centrally.
  2. 2.Automatic pricing based on the current contracts.
  3. 3.Supplier history and assessment at a glance.
  4. 4.Changes take effect immediately on settlement and planning.
The process

From delivery to dispatch

The typical path of a lot through the business. Every step creates the data the next one needs.

  1. Step 01

    Delivery and weighing

    at the weighbridge, minutes

Vehicle, supplier, contract and weight are captured at the weighment. Gross, tare and net arise where the measurement happens, and the lot gets its identity before it is tipped.

  2. Step 02

    Sampling and initial assessment

    intake point

Moisture, impurities and further quick parameters are captured at intake and decide on allocation, drying or rejection. The values are attached to the lot, not to a note.

  3. Step 03

    Storage in the silo

    IoT-supported

The silo ledger keeps the level, origin and quality picture per cell, across sites. Stock transfers and blends are posted as activities so the composition remains traceable.

  4. Step 04

    Laboratory testing and release

    laboratory, hours to days

Analysis values come from the laboratory to the batch and control release or blocking. Only with the release is the goods available for processing and sale.

  5. Step 05

    Retrieval and settlement

    automated

Quantity, quality and contract terms produce the settlement, including premiums and deductions. The evidence on origin and regulation goes to the customer with the goods.

Common questions

Bulk commodity handling in fabular

How does weighing data get from the weighbridge into the system?

The weighment is captured at the weighing activity and linked to supplier, contract and lot. Gross, tare and net are therefore in the activity straight away and do not have to be typed over from a weighbridge printout. To connect the weighing technology, fabular uses the platform's integration layer, which handles common interface formats. Which connection your equipment allows is clarified before the project.

How is traceability maintained with blended silos?

A silo cell is kept as a stock with a composition, not as a single number. Storage, transfer and blending are activities of their own in which the characteristics of the source lots are carried over into the target stock. It is therefore possible to state for every retrieval which deliveries it came from. That is the basis for quality records, for keeping organic and conventional goods separate and for reporting obligations such as the EUDR.

Do laboratory values affect the settlement automatically?

Yes, provided the terms are held accordingly. Premiums and deductions for moisture, impurities or further parameters come from the contract, the measured value comes from quality testing, and the settlement puts the two together. Nobody transfers values into a spreadsheet. Later corrections remain visible as activities of their own, so the path to the amount settled stays traceable.

Does this also work with several decentralised intake points?

Yes. The intake points work in the same system, and head office sees levels, intakes and stock across sites. Capture can be kept lean enough for seasonal staff to work with it after a short briefing. For sites with a weak connection, the platform provides for separate instances with replication, so a poor line does not hold up intake.

What happens if the sensor value and the book stock drift apart?

Both values are kept side by side and the difference is made visible. The sensor supplies a measurement, the books a quantity from receipts and issues. Deviations are normal in bulk storage and only become a problem when they go unnoticed. fabular shows the difference per cell so that you decide consciously about correction postings.

Can reporting obligations such as the EUDR be covered with it?

There is a module of its own for the EU Deforestation Regulation. Items are declared as in scope, the reference and verification numbers are captured at the contract and passed on through stock movement and batch, including across blends. For an item in scope, the stock movement cannot be completed without evidence. The due diligence statement itself is still submitted by you in the EU information system.
